(1) at St. Clair, 6 June 1855, Annie Jasperson, who d. at Ripley, Michigan, 18 January 1863; m. (2) at Minneapolis, Minnesota, 2 June 1869, Permelia Hewins Morgin, who d. at Detroit in 1886; m. (3) at Detroit, 12 Ocober 1887, Mrs. Jennie Welch.  He d. at St. Clair 23 January 1914.  She d. 7 May 1922.

Mark9 received a substantial education at the academy at St. Clair.  He owned and operated a planing mill at Baraboo, Wisconsin, later engaged in the manufacture of hubs and spokes at St. Clair, and subsequently was a capitalist in various enterprises.

For years Mr. Hopkins took an active interest in the business life of St. Clair, and served acceptably as an Alderman and as Mayor.  He was choir leader of the Congregational church and a Republican.

Mr. Joy is a banker of Detroit.  He is the author of numerous articles in the press and in pamphlets bearing upon the re-establishemt of the

p. 640 American merchant Marine (Joy Gen., p. 58), and of the construction of transcontinental highways.  He was interested in the development of the Packard Automobile Company, and was its president.
