| Joseph Alexander HOPKINS
Rebecca GRIFFIN |
| WARNING: there are several interpretations of these circumstances, with probably none of the current ones being correct. One is that Rebecca GRIFFIN was about Joseph's age, that the J. HOPKINS in the 1930 census is our subject, that Rebecca died during the 1830s, and that the Rebecca in the 1850 census is our subject's daughter. The other interpretation is that the J. HOPKINS in the 1830 census is not our subject (i.e., that Joseph is not enumerated as head of household because he is not yet married) and that the Rebecca in the 1850 census is his wife, not his daughter. I don't know which interpretation is correct, nor how he relates to the others in his household through the censuses. Consider this page highly tentative and simply a "first draft" collection of information. |

In Vol. III, on p. 384, is a biographical sketch of Benjamin HOPKINS, said here to be the father of our subject, but the article contains many obvious and serious errors, so caveat emptor!
