Living in a hotel — there were 20 "boarders" in the hotel, all of whom were single working men, except for our subjects.  With regard to their ages, the enumerator had written in the lower numbers, then someone had squeezed in the upper numbers.  Ellen's twin brother gives his birth (in the 1900 census) as Nov 1878, and given that the twins were age 1 year in the 1880 census, 1878 would be the correct year.  Based on the 1880 census, Homer was born in 1872 or 3.

If Kate's first marriage was to Homer, then they were married 1912/3.  Can't find Ellen.  Ellen's mother is boarding with the HAYWOOD family.

6.  Numerous sites on the web.  One site says parents separated when Miriam was 14 (ca. 1916) and mother moved to Barre, VT, but census indicates they were separated by 1910 and that Homer remarried by 1912/3.  If Ellen went to VT, she came back because she's in Georgia in the 1910 and 1920 censuses.
