"Talitha" is a scriptural word turned into a name, from the phrase, "talitha cumi," meaning "damsel arise" (Mark 5:41); sometimes the words are turned into a single name, "Talithacumi."  Talitha is not a nickname or variation of "Tabitha," which is Hebrew for "gazelle."

Thomas Green HILL
Spouse: Elitha Caroline MAY
Marriage: 06 Jul 1843, Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Source: Marriage Records, 1805-1950. Cape Girardeau County (Missouri). Recorder of Deeds
Thomas's wife is Talitha/Telitha, not Elitha; and unless her age in the 1850 census is a mistake, Thomas was "robbing the cradle."

4.  1870 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #64 of 66):  Appleton P.O., Apple Creek Twp., Cape Girardeau Co., MO, Roll 765, p. 33A, PN 65, 375/359, enumerated 20 Jul 1870, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1870 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

Wilkinson & Clara Lelia Johnson.  Self-published, Cape Girardeau, MO. 80 pp. (LDS FHL Book: 929.273 W654wa).  Not seen by me, but cited by many others.  Apparent source of the error calling Thomas's wife, "May E. Carding," which apparently is a very bad misreading of "May, E. Caroline."
