Our subject is living with his son, Michael, and his family.  John should be 77 years old, but I think we can safely say he is the son of Michael & Anna Maria, born 1773.  Unfortunately, John's wife is deceased, so we cannot confirm her identity, but note that Michael & Catharine have named their first two children John and Mary.  Not conclusive, but supportive, that Michael's mother was Mary DENNIS, that is, unless Catherine JOHNSONBACH really was Mary Catherine JOHNSONBACH, in which case it's no help at all, though I wonder if someone didn't make her "Mary Catherine" for that very reason.  Our big problem is the lack of primary marriage records for these John ELYs.

These marriage records all appear to be guesses, so it may not be worth discussing them.  There is no "Buffalo" or Buffalo Twp. in Knox Co., OH (which county was not formed until 1809), and a marriage in Ohio that early is unlikely in the extreme.  There is a Buffalo Twp. in Washington Co., PA, and that location could make sense in that John's parents were living there at that time.  I don't see how the John who married Mary DENNIS in Washington Co., PA, can be the same John ELY who married Catherine JOHNSONBACH/JOHNSONBAUGH/SCHANTZENBACH in Centre Co.  There were no JOHNSONBACHs (or variations) in Washington Co., but there were some in Centre Co. (it's an extremely rare surname), so I've no reason to doubt the marriage to Catherine took place in Centre Co.

The Mary ELY who married Otho KING did end up in Green Co., WI, as did other children of the John ELY who was (age 74) in the 1850 Census of Green Co., WI, and obviously not the John ELY who was in Morrow Co., OH, in 1850, who was (age 76/7), the s/o Michael ELY.  If the latter married Mary DENNIS, then she cannot be the mother of the Mary ELY/EALY who married Otho KING.
