1803 Nov Deed Gift: Book I, p. 56, probated 1807, Rockingham Co., North Carolina, Names children Samuel Jr. (dec'd), William, David, Sally Hanby, grandson Wm. (son of William), grandson Jonathan (son of David), grandson John Hanby (son of Sally Hanby), grandson Nicholas Dalton (son of Samuel deceased) daughter Nancy Harbour "deceased". Appoints James Martin, James Dillard and Nathan Scales to divide proceeds of property sales in nine equal parts (nine children).

This particular archive consists of articles about historic homes in Rockingham County, North Carolina, written by Anne Pearl Pratt Van Noppen and published in 1950 in The Messenger. One of the articles, entitled "Green Valley," included genealogical information about the DALTON and PRICE families. Quoting from that article (boldface added):

Six generations of the Dalton family have lived at this settlement. The first was Samuel, who married Anne Dandridge Red of Orange County, VA. Attracted by the milder climate of North Carolina, they moved to this location in the early 1700's. Their son, Samuel Dalton, married a Miss Ewell...
The first Samuel Dalton to live in this community was a fabulous figure. He lived in three centuries, being born in 1699 and living until 1802. He is said to have owned 150,000 acres of land. Four of his great-grandchildren lived until the ripe age of 90 or more. Dr. Robert Dalton was 95, Ewell was 92. Lee was 93. Mrs. Charlotte Dalton Scales was 93. Two of this family were professional men, Dr. Robert Dalton and the Rev. Pleasant Dalton, a Presbyterian minister. The others were farmers and manufacturers of tobacco, successful business men, owning slaves and amassing wealth.
