William CUPP
Letitia R. JENKINS
Husband:  William CUPP
Birth:  12 Feb 1813, KY
Death:  2 Apr 1894, Grundy Co., MO
Father probablyPhillip CUPP, of PA
Mother:  Ms. __?__, of MD

William's parents are said to be, but they cannot be:
Father:  (Johann) Jacob CUPP
Mother:  Sibby BREEDING
In the 1820 census, there is no room for a male child William's age in Jacob & Sibby's household.  Jacob did not move to Laurel Co., KY (which is nowhere near Mason Co.), until after 1840; in other words, none of Jacob's children was born in KY.  In the 1880 census, William gives his father's birthplace as PA and his mothers as MD, but while Jacob was born in PA, Sibby was born in NC.

Many secondary sources give William a middle initial, "B," but I've yet to find a primary record where such a middle initial is used.

There were no CUPPs in Mason Co., KY, in 1810, but there were three in 1820:  Phillip CUPP, Peter CUPP, and Mrs. CUPP (mis-indexed as Wm.), who were the only CUPPs in Kentucky in 1820.  Of the three, only Philip had a son William's age in the 1820 census.  Yet, when Philip moved on to Franklin Co., IN, by the 1840 census, William remained in Mason Co., KY, where he is found in the 1850 and 1860 censuses.  In the 1870 and 1880 censuses, William is in Missouri.

William is the only male CUPP married in Mason County by 1850, at least, based on this CD.  The only female CUPP marriage in Mason County was Sarah CUPP to George JENKINS in 1845; yet, Sarah appears not to be William's sister.
