Elizabeth DAVIS |
| Husband: Valentine CUPP
Birth: 1811/2, Claiborne Co., TN Death: 17 Sep 1861, Battle of Blue Mills Ferry, Liberty, Clay Co., MO Disposition: buried on family farm near Kirksville, Adair Co., MO Military: Mexican War: soldier (age 35 in Apr 1847) Military: Civil War: Capt. of Cavalry, Union Army Occupation: clergyman Father: (Johann) Jacob CUPP Mother: Sibby BREEDING |
| Marriage: ca. 1829/30
One source gives Valentine an earlier wife, but he is only just old enough to have married Elizabeth and have had a child by 1830. |
| Wife: Elizabeth "Betsy" DAVIS
Birth: 1810, TN Death: 1870, [Knox? Co.,] MO Father: Benjamin DAVIS (b. 1794/5, TN) Mother: Lavina PERRY (b. 1795/6, SC) Some secondary sources say Elizabeth was the niece of Jefferson DAVIS, President of the Confederate States of America. To be Jefferson's niece, Elizabeth's father had to be Jefferson's brother. Benjamin DAVIS, brother of Jefferson, was born in 1787/8 in Georgia, not in 1794/5 in Tennessee, and he married Aurelia SMITH (ca. 1824), not Lavina PERRY. Benjamin & Aurelia (SMITH) DAVIS, had just one child, Mary Ann DAVIS (1825-1828), who did not survive. None of Jefferson DAVIS's other brothers had a daughter, Elizabeth, either, so this Elizabeth DAVIS is definitely not a niece of Jefferson DAVIS. |

WARNING:
the movements of this family are very difficult to explain, much less believe.
I've no doubt something's wrong here. The biggest problem is Valentine's
being said to be in Chariton Co., MO, in the 1840 Census.

The battle was fought in Liberty, Clay Co., across the Missouri River from Blue Mills, Jackson Co., so if Valentine died in the battle, as is said, he died in Clay Co. 7. Jordan R. Dodd, ed. 1998.
