This record was difficult to read, not only because of poor handwriting
and a blurred image, but because there was considerable "marking over"
done later. For George, his age looked like "342," as if someone
had written 42 over 32, or vice versa. Nettie is 37, but she
was born in 1863, not 1853. For Pearl, the enumerator had put "Daughter"
and "F," then someone had written over it "Son," and "M." If Pearl
was female, she shouldn't have been given an occupation, but was her occupation
a mis-alignment from Fred's row, when the enumerator was copying his field
notes to the census forms? The children's ages were initially written
as 16, 12, 9, and 8, respectively; then someone wrote over those ages with
15, 11, 8, and 7, respectively. If Loloa? was 8 years old, she was
born in 1891, not 1881; similarly, if Don was 7 years old, he was born
in 1892, not 1882. Cordon C. CUPP and Thomas J. CUPP are George's
brothers and should have been enumerated as such. Also, Cordon CUPP
was born in 1867, not 1857; his age was first written 32, then was overwritten
with 33; and it appears his status was first written "S," then overwritten
with something, possibly "Wd."
