Charles is said to have been killed during the Civil War by Conferate soldiers who shot him because he wouldn't turn his horses over to them.  I have no idea whether the story is true, or not. 

Secondary sources tend to give either the unmarried Abby CUPP as Charles's mother or Jacob & Sibby (BREEDING) CUPP — Abby's parents — as Charles's parents.  I'm convinced that Abby is not Charles's mother (see Abby's page for the reasons).
