. Obituary: John P. Corbin (1848-1899) (posted by
Kris Corbin; online at the Story County IAGenWeb site):
| OBITUARY IN THE DECEMBER 21, 1899 NEVADA REPRESENTATIVE
Died at his residence in Richland Township, Story County, Iowa December
20, 1899 of an affection of the lungs, John P. Corbin, aged 51 years,
5 months and 27 days.
Mr. Corbin was born in the start of Ohio, June 23, 1848; removed
to Iowa with his parents in 1853 when 5 years of age. In 1870 was
married to Mary Hubbard who survives him. Eight children were
born to them, of whom three are still living to mourn the loss of a beloved
father. In the community in which Mr. Corbin spent the greater part
of his life he was honored and respected by all. He served as a soldier
in the Civil War for thirteen months and was a member of the GAR post at
Colo. The members of the post were present and assisted at his funeral,
his old comrades acting as pall bearers. The funeral services were
held at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, conducted by his friend and neighbor
of 30 years, Rev. J.A. Smay, assisted by Rev. A.B. Shrader. The universal
esteem in which the deceased was held was shown by the large concourse
of sympathizing friends who followed his remains to their last resting
place.
John P. Corbin was a younger brother of Albert G. Corbin.
He served in the lst Cavalry Regiment, G Company. Enlisted at age
16. Residence, Hamilton County, native, Ohio. Enlisted November
24, 1864. Mustered November 24, 1864. Mustered out November
26, 1865 at Austin, Texas at expiration of service. |

| After John Corbin died, Mary E Hubbard Corbin sold the farm and
took the remaining children, Laura Cecil, Maud and John B Corbin to Patterson
Township, Garfield County, Oklahoma where they purchased a homestead.
Maud married a Frank Curtis. Mary E Hubbard died a widow. Laura
and John remained single and farmed the homestead using mules. Maud
and Frank moved out of Oklahoma. Maud died shortly after she married.
I have not been able to track either Maud or Frank Curtis. |
