Ira CORBIN I
Phoebe __?__
NOTICE:  A patrilineal descendant of our subject is participating in the CORBIN Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project.  Anyone who suspects he descends from our subject on a direct male line can support that connection with a DNA test.  Our subject's results, making him Haplogroup R1b1, means he cannot possibly be related to Clement CORBIN, whose descendants are Haplogroup G.
UPDATE:  It turns out our subject is a high-level match with surname SHERMAN.  Back in New England, there are some intermarriages between these SHERMANs and descendants of Clement CORBIN.  Research is ongoing to find evidence of an adoption or some other reason why a New England SHERMAN would have ended up a CORBIN in South Carolina.
Husband:  Ira CORBIN I
Birth:  1765-84, MA
Death:  1811, Newberry Co., SC
Y-DNA Haplogroup:  R1b1

In the 1880 Census, our subject's son gives his father's birthplace as "Mass."  Thus, apparently, our subject is said to be the Ira CORBIN who was baptized on 2 Feb 1769 in Sheffield, Berkshire Co., MA, son of Joseph & Rhoda (NOBLE) CORBIN, but there is a secondary source who submitted an entry to the LDS IGI of an Ira CORBIN who died in 1799 in Berkshire Co., MA.  Surely he is the Ira CORBIN born in 1769 in Berkshire County, which is supported by our subject's DNA match to SHERMAN (see above).

Marriage:
Wife:  Phoebe / Pheby / Pheebee __?__
Birth:  1775-80, SC
Death:  aft. 1850 census, Gwinnett Co., GA

Early censuses place Phoebe's birthyear between 1775 and 1780.  Her age in the 1850 census appears inflated, as often happens with the elderly (who are proud of how old they are, so tend to exagerate their age upward).

Phoebe appears here to have shaved some years off her age; it's inflated in 1850 (see next source).
