The census-taker appears to have gotten carried away with his ditto marks
because certainly Margaret was born in NJ and at least the last four children
were born in OH — too bad for the error because the children's birthplaces
could otherwise have told us rather precisely when Benjamin & Margaret
moved to Ohio.

Kinsey should be 9, not 11 (he cannot be 11 because he didn't appear in the 1850
census). Amanda should be 5, not 9, and she was born in IA, not OH,
which puts Kinsey's birthplace in question. Living between Margaret's
son, Albert
Gallatin CORBIN, and her nephew, Joshua
C. CORBIN.

Benjamin was born in Pennsylvania, not Maine. Benjamin's father was born
in Maryland, so "Maine" may be a mis-reading of an abbreviation for Maryland.

10. Obituary: Benjamin Corbin (posted by Kris
Corbin; online at the Story County IAGenWeb site):
| The Nevada Representative Jan 1900
Benjamin Corbin was born in Huntington County, PA, February
19, 1807. He departed this life Saturday, January 17,
1900, having reached the great age of 92 years, 11 months and 6 days.
He was married to Miss Margaret M. Park February 21, 1830.
From Pennsylvania the family moved to Ohio in 1834; from thence to Webster
County, Iowa, in 1853, and to Story County in 1866. At the age of
30 years Mr. Corbin united with the Lutheran church and remained a consistent
member to the end of life. A few months ago he was bereft
of his wife with whom he had lived for nearly 70 years; and about a month
ago of his son
John. He was longing to depart and to be with
Christ and at last his prayer was answered. He leaves to mourn his
departure one son and seven daughters, fifty-nine grand children, sixty-four
great grand children and two great great grand children. Funeral
services were held at the Johnson Grove Lutheran Church, Monday, January
29, 1900, and were conducted by Rev. A.B. Shrader. Interment was
held in the cemetery near the church. Mr. Corbin was gathered to
his fathers in peace and was buried in good old age. |
