| WARNING: There are serious anomalies in this family group sheet, beyond just the disputed parentage of our subject. No one woman can have a span of fecundity of 40 years (typical is 23 years or roughly age 20 to age 43), so either Ambrose had two wives or some of these children are not his. Given the age difference between Ambrose and Jane, we would immediately suspect he had a prior wife, which would also explain the span in ages of the children. I'm going to assume that a prior wife is the case and arbitrarily assign the eldest children to her. Secondary sources are all over the map with regard to the names and ages of the children. Obviously, more research is needed here. |
