4.  1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #56 of 68):  Brandon, Rutland Co., VT, Roll, p. B, 1396/1578, enumerated 13 Sep 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):•
Gilbert Cheney 50 M   Butcher   Vt
Deborah    " 52 F       Mass
There is an unmarried Cyrus F. CHENEY (æ 23, b. VT), moulder in an iron foundry, living in Burlington, Chittenden Co., VT, who could be our subject's son — note that "F" could easily be a phonetic misspelling of "S" — but without further evidence, there is no way to connect him.  Update:  Cyrus was enumerated a second time (in Burlington) as C. F. CHEENEY (æ 23, b. VT), laborer in iron foundry, so it looks like the middle initial was not a mistakes, so he's not our subject's son.

5.  1860 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #38 of 78):  Brandon P.O., Brandon, Rutland Co., VT, Roll M653_1326, p. 35B, PN 72, 547/495, enumerated 27 Jun 1860, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):•
Gilbert Cheeney 59 M   Farmer 100   Vt
Deborah    " 62 F   wife     "
Darwin Kedder 27 M   Wheelright   1000 "
Helen    " 27 F   wife     "
Fraces E Torry 21 F   Milliner     "
Helen (TORREY) KIDDER and Frances TORRY/TORREY are Gilbert's nieces.  There is an unmarried Cyrus CHENEY (æ 33, b. VT), miner, living in Klamath Co., CA, who could be our subject's son, but without futher evidence there's no way to connect him.  Update:  Having not found our subject's son in 1850, it seems likely he did not survive and is not the one in CA.

6.  1870 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #52 of 76):  Brandon P.O., Brandon, Rutland Co., VT, Roll M593_1624, p. 320B, PN 52, 402/437, enumerated 15 Jul 1870, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1870 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):•
Kidder David W 37 M W Carriage maker 5000 1200 Vermont
______ Helen A 38 F W Keeping House     Vermont
Cheney Gilbert 70 M W Farmer     Vermont
______ Deborah 72 F W Keeping House     Vermont
Helen (TORREY) KIDDER is Gilbert's niece.  No Cyrus CHENEY found, at least not one born in VT in the 1820s.

7.  1880 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #18 of 40):  Brandon, Rutland Co., VT, Roll T9_1347, p. 21B, PN 18, SD 137, ED 169, enumerated 8 Jun 1880, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1880 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):•

What the Numbers in the Federal Census Mean (missing columns contained no data).

    Cheney Deborah W F 82 Mother     / Boarder N?? P?? MA MA MA
Spooner Fred W M 23 Boarder /     Clerk in Store   VT VT MA
Deborah is Helen (TORREY) KIDDER's aunt, not Darwin's mother!  Deborah is also aunt of Fred SPOONER (son of her brother, Paul).  Deborah has some disease/condition, but I can't read it.  Deborah's parents were born in MA, but Deborah was born in VT.
