They may have divorced, rather than her having died.  The fact that three of her four sons disappear at the same time suggests either a divorce or catastrophic mortality.

Comment:  A secondary source tells me that Delilah was b. 1811 in Hartland, Niagara Co., NY, and that, under the nickname, "Lydia," she married Conrad LEONARD and had one son, Jacob (b. 1835).  In other words, that she was not a wife of Elijah CHENEY.  If so, we are left wondering why Ray ALLEN (see below) named "Delilah FITTS" as his grandmother — because surely one knows the identity of one's own grandmother.  It seems more plausible to me that Delilah and Lydia were different persons (twins perhaps?).

Virkus is a compilation of undocumented, patron-submitted pedigrees, so — as with the LDS Ancestral File or Broderbund World Family Trees — one should verify these pedigrees before accepting them, at least with regard to earlier generations.  In the case of Virkus, the informant is usually the subject, who was alive at the time and supplying first-hand information with regard to his near kin — and paying for his entry in the book by subscription to it.  In the case of Ray ALLEN, he is testifying to the identities of his own parents and grandparents, so we should give great weight to this part of the pedigree as being both first hand and contemporary, with the caveat that Virkus may have made an error compiling the information given to him by the informant.

10.  Broderbund.  World Family Trees.  Vol. 19, Pedigree No. 402.  Says Delilah FITTS, d/o Jacob & Elizabeth (TAYLOR) FITTS, was born 1811, Somerset, Niagara Co., NY — the first birth recorded in Somerset.

11.  James Hill Fitts.  1809.  Genealogy of the Fitts or Fitz Family in America.  Wm. J. Coulter, Clinton (online at GenealogyLibrary.com).  On p. 16, there is a mention of a Sophia CHENEY who married a Currier FITTS/FITZ on 18 Apr 1851 (of or in Vermont).  A relative?
