To end the controversy of the spelling of his name (Boon or Boone): "We have before us now, through the courtesy of Col. Thomas E. Tutt, of St. Louis, a lithographic copy of a letter from Boone addressed to Col. William Christian, of Kentucky, - called 'Cristen' in the letter - dated August 23, 1785, and concluding, 'you will oblyge your omble sarvent', to which he signs his name as 'Daniel Boone'."
