The Church of Christ was organized by Rev. Thos. Thompson in 1851 in the brick schoolhouse now used by the Catholics as a parochial school.   A hall which stood where the Groves buildings now stand was purchased and services held there until 1870, when the present building on Franklin street was erected.  This was the first Christian church built in the State.  A great many improvements have since been made.  Connected with the church are a Ladies' Missionary Society, Willing Workers' Society, Christian Endeavor Society and a splendid Sunday School.

There is no permanent pastor now but all the societes of the church are prosperous, and different preachers give excellent sermons.
