The census enumeration of Greene Co. was divided into two communities, namely, Carrollton and White Hall, plus three regions. The three regions were defined by two streams that cross the county from East to West, namely, Apple Creek and Macoupin Creek. The resulting regions were "South of Macoupin Creek" (a small region), "North of Apple Creek" (a larger region), and "between Macoupin and Apple Creeks" (the largest region) covering the central portion of the county. Most of the THOMPSONs in Greene Co. in 1850 were in this central region, and most of them appear to be closely related to one another.Twp/Boro
