Many families occurred in the New York City census only once.  For 1790-1870, these families are listed together on a New York City "singleton" page.  Creating timelines for these families seems pointless, so once I realized most NYC families were not appearing a second time, I stopped entering them in this table, at all, after 1870.  The few families that did appear more than once are listed below, in the table for New York County.
In early New York state, "towns" were the equivalent of the "townships" in other states.
