Census Record Table of German Surname CUPP (and Variations)
in Pennsylvania in 1820
Below is my attempt at extracting all German CUPP/KAPP/KOPP/etc. records from the 1820 census of Pennsylvania, using available indices.  I tried to sweep widely to catch all phonetic spellings, but I did not extract COPE because it is a common English surname.  Undoubtedly, some individuals enumerated COPE are actually German.  As these COPEs are discovered to be German, they will be added to the table.

The purpose of this page is to act as an enhanced index to these surnames, not as a substitute for obtaining and examining the original records, yourself.  Not all records are clearly readable — I may have made mistakes. 

Family names link to family group sheets where the full census record and other information may be found.  Where known, parents of heads-of-households are given.

1.  This image is currently missing at Ancestry.com; I read the page at Genealogy.com where it is image 7 of 9, numbered p. 105, which is the frame on the microfilm, not the census page number, which is 96A.
2.  At Ancestry.com, mis-indexed as John "EUPP" and mis-linked to the last image in the Robeson Twp. group.  At Genealogy.com, indexed correctly as John KUPP.
3.  Mis-indexed as being in Lower Oxford Tw.

7.  Indexed twice, once in North Mulberry Ward, which is correct, and once in Upper Delaware Ward, which is incorrect.  Note that in both cases, she is indexed as being on Roll 108, p. 145, which is correct.
8.  In the Somerset Twp. enumeration, the last four numerical digits were taken in a different order than the standard order, but the columns were clearly labeled, so there is no ambiguity as to what number meant what.  I have put the numbers back in their correct order in the table above.
9.  Mis-indexed and mis-linked as being in Franklin Twp.
10.  Mis-indexed and mis-linked as being in Peach Bottom Twp.
11.  At Ancestry.com, this page image is missing from the group of images labeled, "Warrington," but it can be found as the bottom half of the last image in the "Fairview" group.
12.  John KUPP is indexed as being on p. 46 of Hellam Twp., but he is in Winsor Twp., and their is no number on the page.  At Genealogy.com, it's microfilm page #93.
Search Notes:
1.  The Paul "COPS" in Bucks Co. is Paul COPE, one of many COPEs in the county.
2.  The "Widow CUPS" indexed in Turbut Twp., Northumberland Co., is CREPS.
3.  At Ancestry.com, there is a John KUPP indexed in Hellam Twp., York Co., but I just don't see him on the page.  No such John KUPP is indexed at Genealogy.com.
4.  The Michael "COPW" indexed in Marlborough Twp., Montgomery Co., is Michael "COPE."
5.  As indexed in Washington County, Henry CRISS and Jacob CRISS are CRISS.  The William CRISS not indexed is also CRISS.
6.  The Samuel CRIS indexed in Bradford County is CRIS.
