| Below is my attempt at extracting all German CUPP/KAPP/KOPP/etc.
records from the 1810 census of Pennsylvania, using available indices.
I tried to sweep widely to catch all phonetic spellings, but I did not
extract COPE because it is a common English surname. Undoubtedly,
some individuals enumerated COPE are actually German. As these COPEs
are discovered to be German, they will be added to the table.
The purpose of this page is to act as an enhanced index to these surnames, not as a substitute for obtaining and examining the original records, yourself. Not all records are clearly readable — I may have made mistakes. Family names link to family group sheets where the full census record and other information may be found. Where known, parents of heads-of-households are given. |

Capp." Checking the image, the middle of the name is covered up by tape, but it begins with "A" and ends with "w," so what could it be, but Andrew? 5. Mahantango Twp. was formed in 1787 in Northumberland Co. then was ceded to Union Co. when the latter was formed in 1813. Mahantango Twp. ceased to exist some time before 1820 when it was divided between Perry and Washington Twps., which two townships were then further subdivided into West Perry, Chapman, Union, and bits of Jackson and Monroe Twps. These were among the townships ceded by Union Co. to form Snyder Co. in 1855. In other words, Mahantango Twp. no longer exists, but it once covered most of what is now southern and eastern Snyder Co. 6. Indexed merely as "Capp." |
| Search Notes:
1. The "David Cape" indexed in West Nottingham Twp., Chester Co. appears to me to be David Cope — he is in Londonderry Twp., not West Nottingham. He is listed next to a Margaret Cope in a neighborhood that appears more English than German. |
