Died, at Santa Clara, California, April 20th, 1863, Elder Solomon Rogers, in the 73d year of his age--between 45 and 55 years an orderly member of the church. He left in full assurance of faith; frequently expressed a desire to leave the corruptible body, etc. He joined the Baptist church in his 19th year, and acted as deacon in that church for a number of years. But on hearing the reformation doctrine, as taught by W. Scott, he embraced it, and joined the church of Christ at Carthage, Ohio; was soon afterwards appointed one of its Elders, and has acted in that office in each congregation that he has been a member of, and of Santa Clara until his death. The community, and especially the church at Santa Clara have never sufferd so great a loss before, as when this old, zealous, affectionate Elder left us. He was the center of the whole family's affection--most affectionately beloved by every relative, and each one in return loved by him. Not withstanding our and the family's loss is irreparable, when we consider his gain is infinite, we should be resigned and freely submit to it. He was exceedingly pathetic in his manner of worship; kind, |

loving and liberal were traits in his character. He had the good fortune to have Sister Fairchilds as his nurse for the last two months of his illness, and if there is another as good a nurse in the world, it has not been my fortune to make her acquaintance. THOMAS THOMPSON.
