| Thomas Thompson was born in Christian Co., KY, and was married there
to his first wife in 1815. Adam Thompson was born in Northern Ireland
(was an immigrant with his father) and was one of the earliest residents
of Christian Co., KY, settling there at least by 1804 (moving to what would
become Trigg Co. in 1818).
Thomas and Adam do not appear to be related by blood (Adam has no sons in the appropriate age class to be Thomas in the 1810 Census and, in any case, Adam's children are accounted for). Still, the connection by marriage and the juxtapositioning of these families in early Christian Co. is intriguing. The connection is doubly intriguing because Adam Thompson is said to have been a devout member of the Christian Church and Thomas Thompson was one of its major preachers (the founder of the Christian Church / Disciples of Christ in California). The Haydens and Bells were also prominent names among the clergy of the Christian Church of this period. The marriage between Thomas and Mildred in 1847 in Boone Co., MO, was the third for both of them; they had no children together. There are other connections among the Caves, Bells, Craigs, Haydens, Shipps, etc., but these are the first Thompson connections I've made in Kentucky. |
