Daniel McCRAY & Sarah NODDING
of Jonesborough, Washington County, Tennessee
Daniel McCRAY is estimated to have been born ca. 1745.  His origin is unknown, though his name is clearly Scottish.  By tradition, he is believed to be from Ayrshire, Scotland, but there is no documentation supporting this legend.  Daniel is first recorded in America in 1770, in Loudoun Co., VA.  Some time before then, he had married Sarah NODDING, born 1751 in Loudoun Co., VA, the daughter of William and Mary NODDING of Montgomery Co., MD.  Daniel served in the Revolutionary War, and his five youngest sons served in the War of 1812 (eldest son, Charles, died before the war began).   In 1784, the McCRAYs and the NODDINGs moved to Washington Co., NC [now TN], where Daniel and Sarah lived out their days.

It is an understatement to say that the McCRAYs were prolific.  Most had 8, 10, 12, or more children, so there are many descendants, most of whom moved southwards or westwards, some as far as California.  My line is Daniel > William > George > Delilah, so that line is favored in terms of completeness.
