Walter Balfour STROUP
Margaret Isabelle PEEPLES
Martha P. COUNCIL
Husband:  Walter Balfour STROUP
Birth:  20 Oct 1835, GA
Death:  27 Aug 1902, Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., AR
Disposition:  buried Oak Cemetery, Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., AR
Occupation:  physician, druggist
Military Service:  Civil War: 1st Lt., Asher's Co., Murray's (Georgia) Cavalry
Father:  Alexander STROUP
Mother:  Irena FEUELL / Irene FEWELL

Some secondary sources give Walter the middle name, "Bedford," but a family bible gives him the middle name, "Balfour."   His parents seemed to be naming their sons for famous persons, and there was a noted religious writer of the time named, Rev. Walter BALFOUR, so our subject might have been named for him.

Marriage-1:  4 Nov 1858, Blount Co., AL
Wife-1:  Margaret Isabella / Isabell / Belle PEOPLES / PEEPLES
Birth:  20 Jan 1836 or 1842, Cherokee or Haversham Co., GA
Death:  Jun 1869, probably in Lonoke, Lonoke Co., AR
Disposition:  buried Brownsville Cemetery, Lonoke, Lonoke Co., AR
Father:  William F. PEEPLES / PEOPLES, b. 1808/9, NC; d. 1850-60
Mother:  Margaret "Peggy" ALLRED, b. 16 Nov 1812, SC; d. 1870, Murray Co., GA
Marriage-2:  16 Jan 1872, Franklin Co., AR
Wife-2:  Martha Patton "Mattie" COUNCIL / COUNSELL
Birth:  Dec 1847, AR
Death:  1931
Disposition:  buried Oak Cemetery, Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., AR
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  John Moore COUNCIL / COUNSELL, b. 1 Oct 1817, TN; d. 9 Jan 1882, Franklin Co., AR
Mother:  Lima Peru "Pearl / Perle" ANDERSON, b. 7 Dec 1815, TN; d. 20 Aug 1880, Franklin Co., AR
Children with Margaret J. PEEPLES:
  1.  Newton Henry / Henry Newton STROUP, b. 15 Aug 1859, AL
  2.  Synora / Nora STROUP, b. 30 Mar 1861, Morgan Co., AL
  3.  Lee STROUP, b. Nov 1863, Brownsville, Lonoke Co., AR; d. 8 Jan 1864, Brownsville
  4.  Margaret "Maggie" STROUP, b. 20 Mar 1867, Brownsville, Lonoke Co., AR; d. ca. 1867, Brownsville
  5.  (Child) STROUP, b. 1869, Lonoke, Lonoke Co., AR; d. 1869, Lonoke

Newton is said to have been born in Selma, Dallas Co., AL, but I've found to evidence to place his birth there.
Synora is said to have been born in Morgan Co., AL, and that location is certainly consistent with the family's residence in the 1860 census.

Said by some to have had these children, but they are the children of Joseph & Margaret E. (JOHNSTON) STROUP:
.  Eliza A. STROUP, b. 1861, GA
.  John Edward STROUP, b. 1863, GA
Children with Martha P. COUNCIL:

  7.  Stella STROUP, b. Mar 1874
  8.  Walter Council STROUP, b. Nov 1877
  9.  Gertrude STROUP, b. Jan 1880

— born in AR, presumably in either Webb City, Middle Twp., Franklin Co., AR, or Fort Smith, Upper Twp., Sebastian Co., AR:
10.  Fred STROUP, b. Mar 1883
11.  Addie STROUP, b. Mar 1885
12.  Joseph "Joe" W. STROUP, b. 7 Jun 1891; d. 13 Aug 1951; bur. Oak Cem.

These marriages are based on patron submissions to Yates, mostly in the form of family group sheets, so all marriages are in need of further documentation.  The family group sheets may be purchased from Yates, but if experience is any indication, the sheet is unlikely to cite any documentation.

Walter & Margaret had these children:  Henry Burns (1859-1942); Col. Henry STROUPE, Arkansas National Guard; Signora/Nora (1861- ); Lee (1863-64); Margaret (1867-infancy).

Walter didn't marry Margaret until 1858, and their only child in 1860 was Newton Henry.  If the four earlier children really were Walter's, he must have had a prior marriage.
Eliza and John Edward are the children of Joseph & Margaret E. (JOHNSTON) STROUP, not Walter B. & Margaret (PEEPLES) STROUP, and they were born in Cherokee Co., GA, not Morgan Co., AL.
