As Jacob died when George was a minor, there should be guardianship proceedings for him in Orphan's Court.  A child was considered an "orphan" if their father died, even if their mother was still alive, a woman being deemed not capable of raising a child without male oversight.

File # 3228, Apr 26, 1824.  Christian Ruth of Tinicum Twp.  Daughter Mary Ann, over 14, petitions for guardian.  Henry Stover appointed.  Feb 14, 1826, Daughter Mary Ann had Henry L. Stover as guardian, but she is now married to Jacob Stroup...  Mary Ann died June 27, 1884, age 79 years old.  She is buried at North Cedar Hill Cemetery, Frankford area of Philadelphia...
