George STROUP
Elizabeth Jane LAYMAN
Please Note:  George's patrilineal paper trail leads to the 1711 Palatine immigrant to New York, Johannes STRAUB.  An alleged patrilineal great-grandson of George has been Y-DNA tested at SMGF, and he is not a DNA match with a patrilineal descendant of Johannes, one with a solid paper trail.  Either we are looking at an NPE or there's been a mistake in the paper trail.  I urge patrilineal male descendants of George to be Y-DNA tested to help uncover where the genetic disconnect may have taken place — or whether we have a mistake in paper genealogy.

George Stroup Elisabeth Laymon 1 Sep 1879 Bk. 4, p. 90
How can this date be correct if George and Elizabeth are still single in the 1880 census (see below)?  The 1900 and 1910 censuses indicate a marriage in 1884/5.

2.  1870 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #1 of 79 — indexed "George Stemp"):  Rome P.O., City of Rome (Ward 5), Oneida Co., NY, Roll M593_1059, p. 641A, PN 1, 7/7, 1 Jun 1870, enumerated 1 Jun 1870, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1870 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•

Silas is said to be George's uncle, so either Silas was Betsey's brother or Hannah was Betsey's sister, which at least gives us some hope of identifying Betsey.

This record was extremely difficult to read; my extraction may not be entirely accurate (plus, there's a piece of tape over Column 13).
