Ephraim STROUP
Nancy Elizabeth QUEEN
NOTICE:  a patrilineal descendant of our subject is participating in the STRAUB Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project.  Anyone who suspects they descend from our subject on a direct male line can support that connection with a DNA test.  The results of these tests do prove that our subject is a descendant of Johann Pieter STRAUB I, the 1733 immigrant to Philadelphia, which is consistent with his being a son of either Elias or David.
Husband:  Ephraim STROUP
Birth (according to early censuses):  1824/5, Lincoln [now Gaston] Co., NC
Birth (according to tombstone):  26 Aug 1821
Death:  29 Nov 1895, Benton Co., MS
Disposition:  buried Bethlehem Cemetery, Ashland, Benton Co., MS
Occupation:  farmer
Religion:  Baptist
Y-DNA Haplotype:  I1a-AS5

Parents said to be:
Father:  Elias "Eli" STROUP
Mother:  Ms. CLONINGER?

I think a case can also be made for his father being Eli's brother:
Father:  David STROUP
Mother:  Ann CLONINGER

The bottom line is that neither connection is proven; in either case, however, Ephraim's paternal grandparents are Phillip & Maria Magdalena (EDELMANN) STROUP, and that connection is consistent with his descendant's Y-DNA test results.
