Christian STROUP
Catharine HALTZWART
WARNING:  some of this page is based on circumstantial evidence so may not be correct.  Specifically, the Catharine SAMLAR whom our subject married may not, in fact, be the widow of John George SAMLAR; and, thus, the maiden name of Christian's wife may not be HALTZWART.  On the other hand, these are rare surnames and the pieces do fit.  If you can confirm or refute any of my deductions, please let me know.
Husband:  Christian STROUP
Birth:  1825/6, OH — presumably in German Twp., Holmes Co., OH

Occupation:  homemaker
Other Spouse:  m1. 23 Jan 1847, Gallia Co., OH, John George SAMLAR / SIMLER
Other Child:  Catharine SIMLER-STROUP, b. 1859/60, OH

2.  1860 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #19 of 38):  New Bedford P.O., Crawford Twp., Coshocton Co., OH, Roll M653_950, p. 36A, PN 71, 510/508, enumerated 7 Jul 1860, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•
Chr Stramp 35 M   Farmer 1200 400 Pa
Cath   " 32 F         Wirtemberg
Cath   " 10 F         O
Jno    "  5 M         "
The daughter was born before Christian was married to Catharine indicating she is a child of a former marriage.  That she is listed after John in 1870 (see next source) indicates she is not Christian's child, so presumably she is Catharine's.

3.  1870 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #21 of 32):  Chili P.O., Crawford Twp., Coshocton Co., OH, Roll M593_1185, p. 59A, PN 21, 166/164, enumerated 19 Jul 1870, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1870 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•

The fact that Catharine is listed after John indicates she is not Christian's child.
