Jacob STROUB
Juliana HOYT
Husband:  Jacob STROUB
Birth:  1810-1820, NY
Death(?):  by 1850
Father:  Henry STROUB
Mother:  Margaret SANDFORD

Family history has Jacob going to California in the 1849 Gold Rush, never to be heard from again.  This tale may very well be the true, although sometimes a romantic legend is created to cover up an unpleantness, such as a desertion or divorce.  Juliana may have needed to have Jacob declared legally dead in order to remarry, so there may be some court records regarding the matter.

1840 U.S. Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #251-252 of 270 — indexed "Stront"; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 4 or under 1835-1840 = Augustus (b. 1836/7)
1 male 20-29 1810-1820 = Jacob (b. ca. 1810)
2 females 4 or under 1835-1840 = Margaret (b. 1838/9)
= Daughter A
1 female 30-39 1800-1810 = Juliana
1 person employed in navigation of the ocean
The fact that Juliana is older than Jacob may indicate she had a prior marriage and that, possibly, the eldest daughter is from that marriage.
