p. 173 Last Friday evening at about 7:30 o'clock at the Arkadelphia Lumber Company Mill across the river, a serious and fatal difficulty occurred in which two negroes lost their lives.  Charlie Jackson cut the throat of Bill Stroop, also [a] severe cut in the right side, and another above the left eye, killing him almost instantly. Jas. Stroop his brother rushed in to his rescue, and Jackson cut him on the head and James in turn gave Jackson a fatal cut in the abdomen, from which he died about 12 o'clock.  James Stroop was arrested by Sheriff Abraham and bound over to the cirucuit court under a bond of $500.  The Stroope boys are sons of Mose Stroope, one of the best and well to do colored men in this county, and seems to take this unfortunate trouble his boys have got into very hard.

16 May 1890 was a Friday, so the Friday before would have been 9 May 1890.
