Our subject is said to have been baptized "Tobias Albert" (see parents' page), but he had middle initial "O" in the 1860, 1870, and 1900 censuses, and on his tombstone. I have no explanation for the discrepancy, unless the baptismal record (or its transcription) is in error, or unless he had three given names, or unless someone thought "Albert" was spelled "Olbert." (Note that the given name "Oscar" ran in the family.)

If Tobias & Mary have only been married 15 years, then Harry is not Mary's son. This also jibes with Mary having only six children living, not seven. Elnia STROUP is Tobias's stepmother, Elmiah (PAUL) STRAUB; Samuel J. is her son and, thus, Tobias's half-brother. Listed next to Tobias's brother, George Brady STRAUB.
