Samuel is Paul's son from a prior marriage.  (In the marriage records of St. Joseph Co., IN, there is a marriage for an Alpharetta STRAUB & Lloyd W. HARDEN in 1926.  I mention this record not to imply that I think that Alpharetta is the same person as our subject's daughter, but to support that my reading of the given name in this 1860 census record appears correct and that the one married in 1926 is probably related to, if not descended from, our subjects.)
