Samuel is Paul's son from a prior marriage.  (In the marriage records of St. Joseph Co., IN, there is a marriage for an Alpharetta STRAUB & Lloyd W. HARDEN in 1926.  I mention this record not to imply that I think that Alpharetta is the same person as our subject's daughter, but to support that my reading of the given name in this 1860 census record appears correct — and that the one married in 1926 is probably related to, if not descended from, our subjects.)
