Comments: The county marriage record as extracted by the LDS and by Allen Potts shows a male Frederick STRAUB marrying a female Augusta MACHTLE; yet, the ancestor report by Potts shows a female Friedricha STRAUB marrying a male August MAECHTLE. I believe it had to be Friedricha's brother, Johann Friedrich, who married a female Augusta MACHTLE. Unfortunately, Augusta appears to have died very early in the marriage, so we have no census records to help unravel the confusion.

3. 1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com): Frederick STRAUB (æ 16, b. Germany) is living in Prospect Twp., Marion Co., OH, with his father and stepmother (q.v.). He may also be the Frederick STROUB (æ 15, b. Germnay) apprenticed out to a shoemaker, which means he was enumerated twice (which is rare, but does happen, especially in the case of a child working out). Can't find the MAECHTLE family, and I really looked.
