Daniel S. STRAUB, Sr.
Elizabeth HAHN
Husband:  Daniel S. STRAUB, Sr.
Birth:  1784/5, said to be Bucks Co., PA
Death:  1870-80, presumably in West Perry Twp., Snyder Co., PA
Occupation:  farmer
Father:  (Johann) Carl / Charles STRAUB
Mother:  Maria Catharina __?__
Marriage:  ca. 1803/4
Wife:  Elizabeth HAHN / HANN
Birth:  1785/6, PA
Death:  1870-80, presumably in Middlecreek Twp., Snyder Co., PA
Occupation:  homemaker
Children:
Probably all the children were born in what is now West Perry Twp., Snyder Co., PA; you can't tell precisely based on the censuses alone.  The children are said to have been born in Freeburg (now in Washington Twp., Snyder Co.), but I have no primary documentation supporting them living there.  The fact that Johann Carl was baptized in the Lutheran church in Freeburg only means that they went to church there; it doesn't mean they lived there.  In the will of our subject's father, (Joh.) Carl/Charles, he says that Daniel's "eldest son" was named for him, that is, was named "Charles."

— born in PA, probably in Northumberland [later Union, then Snyder] Co., PA:
  1.  Johann Carl / Charles STROUP, b. 16 May 1805; bap. 1804
  2.  Daniel STRAUB, b. 1803/4 or 1806/7
  3.  Jacob STRAUB, b. 1806/7
  4.  Sophia STRAUB, b. 1806-1815
  5.  Elizabeth "Betsy" STRAUB, b. 1806-1815 — who was not married to Michael WOMMER (see comments below)
  6.  Catherine "Katie" STRAUB, b. 1806-1815
  7.  Sarah STRAUB, b. 1806-1815

— born in Union [now Snyder] Co., PA:
  8.  Henry Hahn STRAUB, b. 11 Mar 1818

— born in Perry [now West Perry] Twp., Union [now Snyder] Co., PA:
10.  George STRAUB, b. 4 Dec 1820
11.  Phoebe STRAUB, b. 1823/4
12.  John H. STRAUB / STROUP, b. 1825/6
13.  (Son A) STRAUB, b. 1825-30 — is he Tobias STRAUB / STROUP, b. Jun 1830 or 1831, PA?

One of their daughters, possibly Elizabeth, was married to Jacob WOMMER.  The Elizabeth who married Michael WOMMER (Jacob's brother) was Elizabeth FLAIN, not Elizabeth STRAUB.  Whichever of our subjects' daughters married Jacob WOMMER, she died before 1840 (possibly Jacob WOMMER also) because two WOMMER grandchildren show up living with our subjects (their grandparents) in the 1840 and 1850 censuses — and one of them, still, in the 1860 census.

The two WOMER orphans are already living with their grandparents. The list is alphabetical, so no neighborhood reconstruction is possible.  Henry did not marry until 1841, so we expect him to still be in the home.

Is this Elizabeth STRAUB our subject's wife?  The only Elizabeth STRAUB/STROUP who is near 74 years of age in the 1860 census is our subject's wife.  Henry STROUP is Daniel's first cousin, twice removed, that is, grandson of Daniel's first cousin, George P. STRAUB.

Yewdale & Sons, Milwaukee, WI (excerpts online at the Carroll County sections of the Illinois Trails web site [link died]).  By and large, this volume is helpful, but like most family histories, it contains errors.  Some of the errors are surprising, however, so I wonder if the error wasn't in compiling the excerpt.
