Our subject is too young (just 13) to be enumerated as head-of-household.
The elder Peter is presumably our subject's father, and his household includes
four males under age 16.
3. 1800 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; extracted
by Diana Gale Matthiesen): there was no 1800 Federal Census of Ohio
(it was not yet a state), and the 1800 Census of Kentucky was destroyed,
but tax lists are substituted where available. Listed below are all
the STIFFLER/STIFLERs indexed on this CD.

1The pages had three sets of
numbers; they were indexed by this set.
2Peter Sr was mis-indexed as being on p. 456. |
It's a near certainty that the George and David STIFFLER in Bedford Co.,
PA, in 1800, are the George and David STIFFLER in Muskingum [now Tuscarawas]
Co., OH, in 1807/8, where they also appear in the 1810 census (see next
source). Our subject is the Jacob STIFFLER living next door to his
father, Peter STIFFLER, Sr. For our subject, his data indicate:
| No. & Sex |
Age Class |
Therefore Born |
Individuals Inferred |
| 2 males |

= Jacob C. (b. 1799/1800)

4. 1810 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; extracted
by Diana Gale Matthiesen): In Maryland, there was an Ann STIFLER
and a Sarah STIFFLER. In Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, there was a David
STIFFLER and a George STIFFLER. In Loudon Co., VA, there were two
John STIFLERs, Jr. and Sr. With the Pennsylvania STIFFLER/STIFLER's
given below, these constitute all the STIFLER/STIFFLER's in the
1800 U.S. Census, at least all those indexed on this CD.

5. 1820 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image
#4 of 4; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen): these are the only
Jacob STIFFLER/STIFLERs in the 1820 U.S. census (I did a page-by-page check
of Shenango Twp. just in case he was there and overlooked by the indexer,
but he was not found):

Of the two Jacob STIFFLER/STIFLERs found in Hanover Twp., Beaver Co., PA,
one is too young to be our subject and the other is too old. The
younger Jacob is obviously newly married and is probably our subject's
son. If we grant that the older Jacob is tallied in the wrong age-class
— as often happens in these pre-1850 censuses — then the data do "work"
for our subject because they indicate:

| *In the 1820 Census, the third column is
age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25; therefore, any
individual in column three is duplicated in column four. By subtracting
the number in column three from the number in column four, you can create
an age class "19-25." |
5. 1830 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):
can't find. There's a Jacob STIFFLER in Beaver Co., PA, and a Jacob
STIFLER in Indiana Co., PA, however both are too young to be our subject.
There are no Jacob STIFLER/STIFFLERs in Ohio.

Sarah is too old to be Mary Ann's and John's mother, so presumably they
are grandchildren. Also, either she has shaved a couple of years
off her age, or the 1776 birth-year for her is wrong. Living next
to (widowed daughter-in-law?), Mary (__?__) STIFLER (æ 53, b. PA),
on one side; and, on the other side, living next to son, Henry STIFFLER
(æ 33, b. PA, wife Nancy).
