The father of Narcissa can't be born ca. 1842 because his daughter, Narcissa, was born ca. 1842, nor would a man that young have a daughter born in 1857.  And why would a daughter of Noah be surnamed WARD?  I cannot find Margaret (or Polly) in the 1860 census, surnamed either WARD or RAPER.  I'm inclinded to disregard Howard's entry entirely.
