aDeacon Benjamin5 Kellogg was son of Samuel,4 Lieut. Joseph,3 of Hadley, Massachusetts, Martin2 of Great Leighs, Essex, England, Phillippe1 of Bocking and Great Leighs, 1583.
Lieut. Joseph3 was Lieutenant of the Train Band in Hadley, whose military service extended over twenty-nine years.  As Sergeant he was in command of the Hadley troops at the famous Turner's Falls Fight against the Indians 18 May 1676. (The Kelloggs in the Old World and the New, p. 25.)

Daniel5 was a taxpayer in Waterbury 1751, resided at Harwinton and Canaan (Falls Village), Connecticut, and in 1768, when he and his wife signed a deed for land in Canaan, was living in the Oblong, Dutchess County, New York.  He may have lived in other towns before settling in the Oblong, and in them may be found the births of some of his children.  Stephen and Ebenezer fit as probable children, but, lacking recorded births, are thus placed from family evidence.  Mr. Orville Homer Hopkins says that the mother of his grandfather Stephen was a Kellogg, that he recalls his father speaking of his uncles Ebenezer and Daniel, and also remembers his father and an aunt mentioning their Aunt Lydia and the name of Birge.  As confirmatory of these recollections, we have Thankful Kellogg as the wife of Daniel5 Hopkins, and the recorded births of his son Daniel6 and of his daughter Lydia6 who married John Birge.  Daniel's5 inventory, recorded at Sharon, Connecticut, 30 April 1776, gives no names of heirs.
