Reason CARRICO
Elizabeth ENGLE
NOTICE:  a patrilineal descendant of our subject, through his son William G. CARRICO, is participating in the CARRICO Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project.  This descendant is not a match with descendants of Reason's brothers, Basil and Josiah, and is thus not a match with the descendants of Peter CARRICO I, 1674 immigrant to Maryland.  This individual apparently has an NPE in his patrilineal line.  Where in his line this NPE occurred can be determined through the testing of cousins, a strategy for which is discussed on this page.  I urge anyone descended on a patrilineal line from Reason to be tested to 1) determine whether they, too, have the NPE and 2) to help determine where this NPE occurred.  If you are a descendant, but not an appropriate candidate for testing, please help us find suitable candidates and please consider making a contribution towards funding the testing of one.  Anyone descended from Reason has a stake in the outcome of resolving this NPE.  Note that we have always did have a problem with the fact that, based on their tombstones, Reason's birthdate is too close to that of his alleged brother, Basil, who was born 11 May 1794.  It appears we may have our explanation, which is that Reason was adopted.  His given name obviously suggests he is kin to Martha (REASON) CARRICO — his aunt, perhaps?  His Y-DNA test results suggest his father may have been a LITTLETON.

1820 IN Sullivan Co. Roll 15 p. 118 Ln. 11 Reason Carrico 100100-10100-0-100
These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 9 or under 1810-1820 = Maxwell (b. 1817/8)
1 male 19-25* 1794-1801 = Reason (b. 1791)
1 female 9 or under 1810-1820 = Sarah (b. 1816/7)
1 female 16-25 1794-1804 = Elizabeth (b. 1794/5)
1 person engaged in agriculture
*In the 1820 Census, the third column is age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25, which means any individual in column three is duplicated in column four.  So, for an accurate representation of the household, the number in column three should be subtracted from the number in column four. If, after the subtraction, any individuals remain in column four, then they have to be age 19-25, thus creating a "new," more precise age class.
