Alfred CARRICO
Amanda HINES
Husband:  Alfred CARRICO
Birth:  Apr 1846, Meade Co., KY
Death:  17 Aug 1918, Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY
Disposition:  buried 18 Aug 1918, Ekron, Meade Co., KY
Occupation:  laborer
Parents:  born in KY

There is a Baptist Church Cemetery in Ekron.  Is that where Alfred is buried?

Marriage:  5 Dec 1877, Brandenburg, Meade Co., KY
Wife:  Amanda HINES
Birth:  May 1853, KY — possibly Meade Co., KY
Death:  23 Nov 1903
Occupation:  homemaker
Prior Spouse:  m1. Mr. RICHARDSON
Father:  Jackson HINES
Mother:  Caroline ATWELL

Amanda is said to have died in Meade Co., KY, but that seems unlikely given that she and Alfred had moved to Louisville by 1900.
Not to be confused with the Amanda Caroline HINES (1851-1907) who married Vinson Green RICHARDSON and lived in Casey Co., KY (n.b., both this couple and our subjects were enumerated in the 1880 census, so these are definitely different persons).

Adopted(?)/Biological(?)/Step(?) Children — born in KY:
1.  Sarah CARRICO, b. 1867/8
2.  Frank CARRICO, b. 1872/3; not found in 1900, so he appears to be the third child who died young
3.  Nora CARRICO, b. 1874/5 or Oct 1877?

There could be any number of possible explanations for the presence of these children in the household, but all three were born before our subjects married, so the least likely explanation would seem to be that they are the biological children of both Alfred and Amanda.  Given that Amanda does not appear to have married Alfred under her maiden name, the most obvious explanation is that Frank and Nora are her children from a prior marriage to a Mr. RICHARDSON.  The most difficult child to explain is Sarah because Alfred and Amanda are both unmarried and without children in the 1870 census.  However, note the 1900 census where Amanda is shown as having had eight children, with five surviving.

Children — born in Meade Co., KY:
4.  Hiram C. CARRICO, b. 5 May 1878
5.  (Child) CARRICO; died young
6.  (Child) CARRICO; died young
7.  Bertha CARRICO, b. 3 Feb 1888 or 1899
8.  Robert Harrison CARRICO, b. Oct 1890

1.  Kentucky Marriages, 1785-1979 (online at familysearch.org):
Groom's Name: Alfred Carrico
Bride's Name: Amanda Richardson
Marriage Date: 05 Dec 1877
Marriage Place: Brandenburg, Meade, Kentucky
Source Film: 2116584
It appears Amanda was married first to a Mr. RICHARDSON, but after 1870 where she is still Amanda HINES, which would explain Frank and Nora, but not Sarah.

The ages look like rounded-off estimates.  Many of the records had numbers in the "Fugitive from the State" column that were added later in another pen and hand; I don't know what these numbers really represent. James Hiram CARRICO is head of the only CARRICO household in the county, except for James's son, Benedict J. CARRICO, whose only slave is an 8-year-old girl.

Benedict "Ben" J. CARRICO is the son of James Hiram CARRICO, who was most likely Alfred's owner (see 1850 and 1860 census records above).  Here, Alfred is living with Thompson & Margaret (SHACKLETT) KENDALL, parents of Benedict's wife, Mary Ann (KENDALL) CARRICO.

Alfred's and Amanda's ages cannot be correct; based on other records, Alfred should be 34 and Amanda 28.  The only child born after their marriage is Hiram.  Listed between Benedict J. CARRICO and David F. RICHARDSON.
