One of Harriet's sisters was deaf and dumb raising the question as to whether Henry's and Harriet's afflictions weren't the same (i.e., that they weren't mentally impaired, at all). Listed next to Harriet's parents, John A. & Mary Ann (SEDGWICK) CARRICO. Harriet's parents had moved to PA by the 1810 census, so Harriet cannot have been born in MD.

Lavinia appears to be our subjects' orphaned daughter, even though she should be surnamed APPLE, not CARRICO. Despite their ages being off, Alexis and Nancy appear to be Harriet's unmarried siblings. Nancy is Harriet's deaf and dumb sister and one wonders if Alexis wasn't also so afflicted. Certainly, being deaf and dumb could lead to errors in their census records. Listed next to Harriet's older brother, John CARICO.
