| Y-DNA Haplogroup I (M170+) SNP Character Matrix and Haplotree
Filling Out Your Haplogroup I SNP Testing |
| SNP Matrices: | Introduction | I-M170 | I1-M253 | I1-L22 | I1-Z58 | I2-P215 | I2a-P37.2 | I2b-P217 |
| Below is an excerpt of the Y-DNA Haplogroup I haplotree as shown at
FTDNA and ISOGG (as of 19 May 2012), with the major downstream branches
on linked pages (q.v.).
An empty cell in the FTDNA column means they do not currently recognize the subclade; an equal sign in the ISOGG column means the value is the same as FTDNA. SNPs to the right of the vertical bar | are listed at ISOGG only. |
This excerpt of the haplotree is based on the_FTDNA
Draft Tree_plus actual test results as
extracted from the I1/M253
Project, the I2*/P215
[no subclade] Project, the I2a/P37.2
Project, the I2b1/M223
Project, and the I2b2/L38
Project.
Note that the FTDNA Draft Tree shows P37.2 and P217 (et al.) downstream of L460, not parallel with it, as shown on the ISOGG tree. L340 and L343 are not shown on either the ISOGG Tree or the FTDNA Draft Tree, but they show up in at least some I1 and I2 individuals, so they may be worth tracking until their position can be determined. |

| The "Surname" is the surname of the earliest patrilineal ancestor,
which is not necessarily the surname of the test subject. A red asterisk
is a recommended test (IMO).
If you have been tested at some other lab (e.g., 23andMe), so have results not shown on the SNP page of any of the FTDNA Hg I projects, please let me know, so they can be added to the matrix. |
| Haplogroup I? |
| M258?
P19? P38? M170?
FTDNA has deduced these individuals to be Hg I (I-M170) based on their STR haplotype. They need to test at least M170 (to prove they are Hg I) and/or M253 and P215 (to determine whether they are Hg I1 or I2). There are many additional individuals who have been deduced to be I-M170, but they've not tested any SNPs, at all, so they're not included here.

| Haplogroup I |
| M258+
P19+ P38+ M170+
These individuals could be either I1 or I2, so they need to test at least M253 and P215 to determine which. There are over 50 additional individuals who have tested just M170+, P19+, and/or P38+, but no other SNPs, so I have not included them here.

| M258+ P19+
P38+ M170+
These individuals are likely I2b, but they need to test P215 and 217 to confirm it (if negative for P217, they need to test L415 and L596).
