| Tennessee achieved statehood in 1796 (in 1790, it was still part of North Carolina). The entire 1800 Tennessee census was lost. The 1810 Tennessee census was lost, except for Grainger, Rutherford, and part of Union County. In 1820, of the 48 counties then in existence in Tennessee, 22 counties were lost. The entire 1890 Federal Census was lost. Tax lists are substituted where available. |
